#7: Franken Crashes This Line

On page 121 (p. 130 of the paperback) of Lies, Franken makes reference to a "Clinton-thwarted 1996 al Qaeda plot to hijack an American commercial plane and crash it into CIA headquarters."

The truth envelope, please? Well, first, the plot was uncovered in 1995 ... by Philippine intelligence.1,2 A major terrorist cell was discovered after a small fire broke out in the Manila apartment of Ramzi Yousef and two other terrorists3, and the plot was soon revealed.4 Neither Bill Clinton nor Socks the cat had anything to do with thwarting this plot. This Franken lie is related to another one revealed here.

Is there any end to Franken and TeamFranken making stuff up?

The Report of the Joint Inquiry Into the Terrorist Attacks of September 11, 2001 – By the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, released in full to the public in July 2003, states (emphasis mine),

"In 1995, Yousef’s plots to bomb twelve U.S. airplanes flying Asian routes, kill the Pope, and crash a plane into CIA Headquarters were thwarted by Philippine police when a fire erupted in an apartment where Yousef was preparing explosives."     It says, "thwarted by Philippine police," not "Clinton-thwarted"!
