Addendum D: No Truth for a Tough Crowd

Al Franken is a regular guest on several television talk shows as he promotes himself and his endeavors, but can you trust what he says on these venues?

For example, on May 25, 2004, Al and his "Air America" cohorts appeared on the Comedy Central show Tough Crowd, hosted by Colin Quinn. In a discussion of the Iraq/Abu-Ghraib scandal, Franken claimed that Golda Meir, the former prime minister of Israel, once said,

We will someday forgive the Palestinians for killing our children, but we will never forgive ourselves for killing their children.

Oops. What Meir actually said was,

We can forgive you for killing our sons. But we will never forgive you for making us kill yours.

As you can see, Meir's quotation has a totally different meaning than what Franken attributes. In attempting to advance his own wishes, Franken distorts the truth ... again.

Caveat spector. (Pardon my latin. I think I got it right. "Beware the viewer.")
